Audrey Boylestudio artist

Boyle has been drawn to the mountains since she was a little girl and  recentlly received her BFA in Studio Art at Appalachian State University. She is traditionally a painter and mixed media artist, but also has interests in wide-ranging mediums. Boyle’s personal experiences and struggle to deal with painful emotions have influenced the majority of the body of her work. She investigates these concepts through the themes of narrative, alienation, and intimacy.

She has exhibited work in the 2012 copy of the Artistic Rebuttal, the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts and the Nth Gallery.

Artist Statement:

The themes of alienation and intimacy and how they both connect to socially engaging art, are what have been fueling my creative research. After generally working with two-dimensional art, I began to feel confined with the messages I can effectively convey. In order to investigate other ways to reach my intended audience, I have moved toward the idea of relational aesthetics and community based art.

In my recent work, I have been delving into the issue of place and how that ties into having one to call a home. With the delicacy of this topic I have encountered a number of unsuccessful works that I produced which were not reaching the audience how I had originally intended. However, I have found that after additional research on community-engaged art, I am building my way towards a lucrative body of work.
